Cantonese Speaking Assistant Buyer

Are you a Cantonese and/or Mandarin speaker looking to develop your career in imports? This might just be the perfect opportunity for you.

A family-run FMGC food retail specialist is urgently seeking an Assistant Buyer. The successful applicant will:

-Support in the delivery of sales and profit, in line with the agreed buying strategy
-Support in delivering a strong range, ensuring a company wide commercial mix, identifying new brands and trends
-Support in supplier negotiations, managing all aspects of buying to maximise the profit; margin, sell through, markdown and staffing
-Work across the business; with store managers and marketing, to support sales and maximise opportunities
-Build strong supplier relationships to negotiate optimum terms. Work with line manager to develop partnerships with key suppliers to maximise commercial relationships
-Ensure KPIs including margins / markdowns and costs are in line with budget
-Agree selling prices in line with the market, company policy and agreed price points with line manager
-Analyse reports
-Manage immediate reports
-Process purchasing documents in an organised and timely manner

Profile and skills required:

-Interest in food
-Numerate with good analytical skills
-Brand building experience
-Good knowledge of local and market trends
-Current/relevant product and market awareness
-Good negotiating and communication skills.
-Able to make logical decisions under pressure
-Able to manage time well to prioritise multiple workstreams / objectives
-Good financial awareness and acumen
-Innovative and uses initiative
-Intermediate Excel
-1- 2 years' experience in a buying team or similar
-Good English verbal and written skills
-Chinese speaking (Mandarin or Cantonese)
